How the expense split works
Business portion = total cost × business-use percentage ÷ 100. Personal portion = total cost − business portion. Both portions add back to the original amount after rounding.
Choose a percentage supported by your records. Different expenses and countries can have different rules; the calculator does not choose an allowable percentage for you.
Worked example
An £80 bill with 75% business use gives a £60 business portion and a £20 personal portion. At 0%, the entire bill is personal; at 100%, the entire bill is assigned to business use.
Keep the original with the split
Save the receipt or bill and the basis for your percentage. FigureLane lets you record a business-use percentage while reviewing income and expenses, so your preparation report can retain both the full amount and your chosen portion.
Common questions
Can I use a fractional percentage?
Yes. Enter a percentage from 0 to 100, including decimals. Monetary results are rounded to two decimal places.
Does the business portion mean I can claim it against tax?
No. It records your allocation. The tax treatment depends on the expense, your business and the applicable rules.
